Karura Forest

G4S recognizes the threat to Karura forest and the community that benefits from this natural resource. For this reason, we have organized an annual marathon dubbed ‘G4S Karura Cross-Country Challenge’. The first marathon was held on 30th July 2011.

This is one of the resource mobilization action activities. The money raised is used to fund the Karura Forest’s activities that will see the place converted to a safe eco-friendly place.

Some of the proposed projects include, improving various infrastructure; in particular around the waterfalls and caves, building a mountain bike trail and obstacle course in Sigiria, equipping scouts with a radio system to improve security and safety in the forest, fencing the KFS headquarters as well as building a bird walk and picnic sites.

In addition, to resource mobilization and organizing the challenge, G4S has been offering, at no cost an, ‘Events Coordinator’ who helps with all matters related to events and its associated security in the forest - includes guards at the four entry gates into the forest, emergency response services in case of fire or incidents, and guard services and an alarm response service at the Kenya Forest Environmental Education Trust (KFEET) Centre.
