G4S Kenya at 2010 Lewa Conservancy Marathon Add this

G4S was at this year’s Safaricom Marathon which took place at the breathtaking Lewa Wildlife Conservancy on June 26th, 2010.

The fundraising event, regarded as one of Kenya’s toughest races, hosted about 1,000 runners from 20 different countries. Among the participants was Kenyan marathon legend, Ms Catherine Ndereba, one of the world’s fastest runners.

The Lewa wildlife sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including some 100 rhinos, elephants and other animals like zebras, giraffe, buffalo and much more. Naturally, the race also attracts lots of spectators. G4S provided crowd control, emergency medical treatment, and fire & rescue services. Although there was no serious incident, the G4S team put out a fire and dealt with over 100 minor medical cases at the recovery station.

Proceeds from the annual marathon have previously supported local primary and secondary schools, wildlife conservation, community forestry programmes, hospitals, and the treatment of victims of wildlife/human conflict.

The Chief Conservation Officer, Mr Richard Moller, expressed his gratitude for the exemplary performance by G4S guards in providing security during the event and hoped to see the team next year. “In addition to the services you have offered, please consider sending a team to participate in the marathon next year,” he said.
