Securing our CommunitiesAdd this

At G4S, we seek to make a positive impact on local communities wherever our staff, customers and suppliers live and work around the world.

Different countries across the world face different challenges to their societies and social wellbeing. With operations in more than 125 countries, we are very aware of the many worthy causes and projects which deserve our support.

To do this we encourage our business to engage and invest in community projects, whether directly with cash or through staff volunteering, fundraising and provision of G4S services as well as directly benefiting the communities concerned, this action improves our engagement with our staff and deepens our relationships with our customers.

The majority of our local programmes focus on the health, education, welfare and support of children and young people, while others G4S businesses focus on the elderly, the poor and other disadvantaged or vulnerable groups.

St. Paul’s Children’s Home

G4S plays a significant role in the lives of thousands of people - both directly through employment and our relationships with customer and suppliers, and indirectly through our involvement in the communities in which our employees live and work.

In January 2009, G4S Kenya in partnership with G4S Netherlands set up a poultry project to assist in generating income while providing nutrition to the children.

The project was commissioned in 2009 by the celebrated Ethiopian long distance runner Haile Gerbreselassie and who is the global ambassador for the G4S 4Teen youth programme.

In December 2010 G4S commissioned a Nursery school unit in efforts to achieve self sustenance for the school going children aged between 1 to 17 years. The home also receives meals for the young children mostly aged below five years old.

This is part of an ongoing CSR support programme by the company for the home since 2007. G4S has invested a considerable amount of money in construction and maintenance of the home since the children attend schools in the surrounding community.

Kabete Remand Home

G4S Kenya has been supporting Kabete Remand Home since March 2010. Children at the remand home have an opportunity to gain vocational education as well as engage in talent building activities.

In 2011, G4S put up a computer room, counseling room and a library. Additionally, G4S donated guitars for the new talent area and repainted the remand home.

We are dedicated to ensuring that the children turn away from a life of crime after release from custody, benefiting the communities to which they return to.

Nazarene School in Mukuru-Kwa-Njenga slums

G4S recognizes and rewards effort. In this regard, we have been providing support during the annual prize giving day at Nazarene School.

G4S also plans to refurbish the pre-school unit and provide play equipment so as to improve the learning atmosphere.

Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA)

This year G4S partnered with MYSA in a 5 Year project to develop talent by providing University Support and Internship to MYSA members and development of their community library projects.

G4S intends to build a library at Maili Saba. The library will provide access (to over 250 children per day) to books, a study area and sheer them away from drugs and other idling in the slum area.

Voluntary Fire Fighters

At G4S, we consider CSR initiatives to be inseparable from corporate activities. It is crucial that companies recognize that their existence is premised on society.

As part of securing the world, G4S organizes an annual training program to not only equip volunteer fire fighters with skills but also provide safety awareness to firefighters who will work with the community.

We make a difference by helping people to operate in a safe and secure environment where they can thrive and prosper. Since inception of the program, G4S has trained more than 130 volunteer fire fighters.

Kenya Society for the Blind

As part of G4S Kenya’s service to the community, G4S Kenya has been supporting the Kenya Society for the Blind in a span of 15years by distributing educational material for visually impaired persons in 88 districts throughout Kenya. We also provide free courier services to the society.

Other activities that we have sponsored over the years include:

  • Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon
  • Mater Heart Run
  • Rhino Charge
  • Lewa Marathon
  • Aga Khan Foundation
  • Freedom From Hunger Walk
