G4S Supports Kabete Remand Home

Working together to help break the cycle of poverty and crime
NAIROBI, KENYA JUNE 2011 - Children at Kabete Remand Home in the outskirts of Nairobi got an exceptional treat when G4S staff visited them to mark this year’s Day of the African Child celebration on June 16th, 2011.
The G4S Regional Managing Director for East Africa, Mr. Adam Miller visited the remand home to officially open the newly constructed computer room as well as spend the day with the children. Mr. Miller was accompanied by the G4S Chairman, Mr. Nicholas Ng’ang’a, Deputy Managing Director-Kenya, Eng. Jack Muchira who interacted with the children and taught them how to play the guitar and play table tennis.
Kabete Remand Home is a facility which accommodates children who have been arrested for committing various crimes around Nairobi are confined for corrective measures. G4S partners with correction centers and public safety agencies in different parts of the world.

Through our CSR initiative, G4S (Kenya) has been supporting Kabete Remand Home since March 2010. Children at the remand home have an opportunity to gain vocational education as well as engage in talent building activities. This year, G4S put up a computer room, counseling room and a library. In addition, G4S donated guitars for the new talent area and repainted the remand home. G4S is dedicated to ensuring that the children turn away from a life of crime after release from custody, benefiting the communities to which they return to.
